HUGHES SADDENED BY PASSING OF MAURICE FOSTER

OTTAWA – Carol Hughes is reacting to news that Maurice Foster, the long-time Member for the constituency of Algoma, died this past Saturday. Foster served Algoma from 1968 to his retirement in 1993.

“I was saddened to hear of the passing of Maurice Foster,” said Hughes, who holds most of the former Algoma riding in the boundaries of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing. “He had a long record of service to the people of Algoma and there will be many in the North who share my feelings today.”

Foster, who served for 25 years as the MP for Algoma, passed away on Saturday. He is survived by his wife Janet, 4 children, and 14 grandchildren. “My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family,” said Hughes. “It is a difficult time for them, but I hope they are comforted by knowing he was well respected with a long record of public service.
