CAROL HUGHES’ STATEMENT ON NATIONAL ABORIGINAL DAY

“I am happy to join with Aboriginal people across Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing as we celebrate National Aboriginal Day. During Aboriginal History month, and on National Aboriginal Day, we recognize the contribution and achievements of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people, and honour their history. It's also a day to recognize Canada’s commitment to Treaty and Aboriginal rights and to recommit ourselves to strengthening our relationships with indigenous communities.

Today, June 21st, I encourage everyone to join in the celebrations organized across Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing as First Nations people invite us to increase our knowledge about Aboriginal peoples’ values, customs, languages, and culture. Happy National Aboriginal Day! Miigwetch”.
